  • Role Summary

    As a Marketing/Communications Specialist, you will provide support to projects within the company’s communications and social marketing group for the Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships (IIP) in the Directorate of Engineering at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in Alexandria, VA.  You will generate both written and design content for NSF’s email marketing campaigns.  Additionally, you will produce content for the NSF IIP program’s social media and websites.  You will also present your work to the client, colleagues and management. 

    What Will You Be Engaged In Day-To-Day?

    • Preparing key documents for the client, including eblasts, social media posts editorial calendar and news releases.
    • Writing, editing, researching, and evaluating communications materials, products, and perform environmental scans as needed.
    • Working closely with clients, team members, and vendors.
    • Coordinating and implementing social media support, e-marketing campaigns, partnership outreach channels, and other communications activities.
    • Demonstrating proficient knowledge of the firm’s communications services (e.g., social media, materials development, grassroots organizing/coalition building, design/graphics, Web, interactive media).
    • Staying abreast of the latest communication technologies, following industry publications and advancements.
    • Preparing data for analysis and participates in qualitative analysis of findings.
    • Identifying, implementing and owning processes and procedures that streamline and improve the overall experience for clients and associates.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.

    What Qualifications Will Help You Succeed?

    • B.A. or M.A. degree in communications, marketing, or an applicable field of study, or the equivalent education or experience, plus a minimum of five years of relevant experience. 
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills. 
    • A passion for storytelling, science and technology and the ability to weave together the world of STEM, science communication, marketing and business.
    • Experience using email marketing software (Pardot or MailChimp preferred) and CRM software (Salesforce) is preferred.
    • Intermediate graphic design and HTML experience is desired.
    • Extensive knowledge in interactive/digital communications, as well as experience working in an agency environment on Federal Government or nonprofit projects, is preferred. 
    • Must be able to lead in a collaborative team environment, to think creatively, and to exercise good business judgment, flexibility, and responsiveness to changing requirements and conditions. 
    • Strong client relations skills, leading to high client satisfaction, are required. 
    • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, pay attention to details, and handle a variety of responsibilities efficiently and effectively is a must. 
    • Self-starter with innovative problem-solving skills who can provide excellent leadership and drive results effectively and efficiently.
