Role Summary

The Director of Digital Strategy is responsible for guiding and overseeing the web strategy team with an emphasis on applying and blending best practices and modern processes in user interface (UI)/user experience (UX) design, content strategy, usability, analytics, and front-end development. This position will support the Vice Presidents of Digital Strategy & Products in building a skilled, innovative, Agile, data-driven team with a technological infrastructure of equal degree. The Director of Digital Strategy requires excellent operations and business judgment and initiative in responding to frequent client requests, and careful attention to meeting all contractual obligations.  

What Will You Be Engaged In Day-To-Day?

  • Managing a multidisciplinary team of UX/UI, content strategy, front-end development, and analytics colleagues and technologies in a matrixed environment.
  • Collaborating with team leads to ensure a consistent and well-thought-out web strategy for new web projects and updating older solutions across all phases of the product life cycle.
  • Laying out the vision and strategy for digital projects including websites, mobile applications, social media, and emerging technologies.
  • Applying best practices and emerging trends in UX/UI, while balancing client requirements and educating team members.
  • Using analytics to analyze and define decision-making. Collaborating with team leads to define data gathering and information reporting. Supporting strategic planning and technology implementation across the company.
  • Synthesizing customer and business insights, and input from cross-functional teams into the development of digital solutions deliverables such as creative briefs and presentations.
  • Identifying new digital innovation opportunities (technologies, partners, trends) and providing support to internal and client stakeholders. Playing an active role in new business initiatives, representing UX strategy in pitches and leading discussions about strategic approaches.
  • Providing day-to-day leadership of the team and corporate operations.  
  • Coordinating with subordinate managers to maintain frequent contact with client representatives, to identify and respond to client requests, and to ensure that potential sources of difficulty are identified and addressed.
  • Maintaining project budgets, schedules, and staff levels in collaboration with project leads to ensure adherence to contract requirements. Identifying any issues that may affect project performance.
  • Attaining revenue goals by developing effective business development strategies and winning client proposals that achieve revenue objectives. Ensuring that proposals represent sound technical approaches and give assurance of a targeted profit. Developing proposals and disseminating information to the team.
  • Preparing and presenting required status reports, including coordination of information gathering, report and graphics presentations, agenda, and so forth, for meeting internal or external status-review requirements.
  • Administering a quality assurance program to ensure technical accuracy and adequacy of deliverables.
  • Ensuring adequate staffing, counseling staff on quality and quantity of work performed, providing technical guidance and support, preparing and conducting performance evaluations, interpreting company policies and procedures for staff, and ensuring that company policies, procedures, and practices are followed.
  • Contributing key technical expertise by serving in a technical consultant role on other programs or functions in the company. Training in fields of specialization, both within the company and for clients.
  • Assisting the managing Vice Presidents or above in formulating and executing annual and long-range planning for the operation and for the company.
  • Maintaining state-of-the-art knowledge regarding professional skill areas and applying expertise in solving technical problems.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

What Qualifications Will Help You Succeed?

  • B.S. or B.A. in web design or related field of study, plus a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience within the following: analytics, UX/UI design, usability, content strategy, and front-end development. Certifications in the user experience and analytics field a plus.
  • Significant experience in a government contracting and agency environment, including budget responsibility.
    • The government contracting experience must include technical program planning and implementation, contract interpretation and administration, budget development, and administration of government projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of the web redesign process; previously managed and led UX/UI and/or (front-end) development teams.
  • Experience leading projects through the complete website redesign project life cycle utilizing traditional project management as well as iterative development/Agile methodologies. Ability to tailor best practices to project teams to deliver business value.
  • Familiarity or expertise with Agile methodology and processes.
  • A passion for learning and staying current with new and future digital trends, as well as experience integrating emerging trends internally and growing supporting team structures.
  • Experience supporting business development through client engagement; seeking out new business opportunities in technical areas of expertise. Analyzing requests for proposals and participating in preparing proposals for new business.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the group/company by providing ideas for streamlining operations and implementing improved processes.
  • Ability to work independently of any direct supervision and possesses excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills; strong organizational skills, initiative, and follow-through; and flexibility and responsiveness to changing requirements and conditions.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a team environment.
  • Experience with mobile development a plus.
